I've been working since 2007 in games in Animation and Technical Art. Lets talk about it in chronological order.
I got my first job in 2007 in Melbourne. As an animator fresh out of Uni, I was eagerly creating various monkey, alien, and critter animations in 3dsmax for platforming beatemups.
In 2010 for 5 or 6 consecutive 3 month contracts, I was back in Brisbane working on the official video game for the London 2012 Olympics! Using 3dsmax and MotionBuilder, I worked on the gameplay animations for Table Tennis, Diving and Trampoline events.
The art team at this studio was pretty great - there was all kinds of realism focused development that made this project an exciting thing. Additionally I got my first exposure to Havok Behavior, and witnessed many spider webs disguised as animation state machines.
During a working holiday in the UK I landed a position at Frontier Developments in Cambridge.
Getting the chance to be part of the large animation team during this time was really special. There was a passion for producing quality work, and the morning crit sessions were super important and memorable.
I spent time working on a new project here "Coaster Crazy" and watched the studio attempt its first Free to Play game.
I joined Firemonkeys as a contract Animator to work on NFS, however my work quickly shifted into a technical role and I became a Technical Artist, providing animation as needed for feature updates and marketing.
I moved internally to the central TNT team as part of engineering department, where we support 3 live titles and various unreleased projects.
The 3 main games at Firemonkeys (NFS, Sims Freeplay, and Real Racing 3) are live service mobile titles and have been running for 10+ years.
I've since moved back to the last remaining game (Sims Freeplay) and am currently in the process of modernising the workflows and tools to keep this game going for ever and ever!
